The Foulane Family

It all began with books.

The Foulane Family began in France in 2019, published by Éditions du BDouin and written by Norédine Allam. This illustrated novel series stands out for its narrator: Walad, the youngest child, tells the story in the first person, with a ten-year-old’s words, shortcuts, exaggerations and unintentional humour. No adult narrator corrects him. Readers see what Walad sees, understand when he does and make mistakes alongside him.

Sensitive and varied subjects.

The volumes explore the everyday life of a Muslim child growing up in the West: artificial intelligence, illness, bullying, bad company and shyness. Nothing is sugar-coated or theoretical. At the centre is a lively, sensitive boy, constantly pulled between his appetite for adventure and his sincere wish to follow his parents’ advice. The stories grow from that tension, and their lessons emerge from consequences rather than lectures. Modernity and tradition, adventure and values, humour and wisdom: the collection has held this balance from its first volume. More than 120,000 copies sold to date.

The Foulane Family goes on Umrah!

In late 2023, Norédine Allam set himself an ambitious goal: an illustrated novel set entirely in present-day Madinah and Makkah. The Foulane Family goes on Umrah, in a story spanning two volumes. In volume 10, the idea of an animated series appears: a palm grove in Madinah and children working on land that does not belong to them. That same volume introduces Soufyan, who becomes one of the narrative pillars of season one.

From illustrated novel to animated series, the aim remains the same: passing on values and lessons to children through adventures full of emotion.
